14-year-old girl nabbed for stabbing aunt

PRAI: A 14-year-old girl has been detained by police for stabbing her aunt at a flat in Jalan Prai Jaya here this morning.

Police received information from the public that a woman had been stabbed at 11.30am today.

Seberang Prai Tengah district police chief Assistant Commissioner Helmi Aris said investigations revealed the suspect had been staying with her 35-year-old aunt for the past four days due to family issues.

"While they were at the hall this morning, a verbal exchange ensued between the victim and the suspect because the latter wanted to return to her biological mother but was prevented by the aunt.

"During the verbal exchange, the suspect suddenly stabbed the victim with a knife. As a result, the victim sustained injuries on the left side of her stomach and is still being treated at hospital.

"The suspect has been detained to assist with investigations," he said tonight.

Helmi said the case is being probed under Section 324 of the Penal Code for causing hurt with weapon.

The offence carries maximum 10 years imprisonment or fine or whipping or both upon conviction.
