[UPDATED] Teen girl claims trial to allegedly stabbing aunt

BUKIT MERTAJAM: A 14-year-old girl claimed trial at the magistrate's court here today to allegedly stabbing her aunt at a flat in Prai, near here, last Friday.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge of voluntarily causing harm to her 33-year-old aunt using a knife at a flat unit in Jalan Prai Jaya, Prai, at 11.30am on Jan 3.

The charge, under Section 324 of the Penal Code, carries up to 10 years in prison, a fine, whipping, or a combination of these penalties, upon conviction.

The proceedings were held behind closed door, attended by the girl's father.

Deputy public prosecutor Zulfadzly Hassan prosecuted and the girl was represented by counsel Muhaimin Hashim.

Zulfadzly urged the court to set bail at RM5,000, with additional condition that the accused does not disturb the victim.

Muhaimin pleaded for a lower bail, saying his client is currently attending school.

Magistrate Mohd Harith Mohd Mazlan set bail at RM3,000 with one surety and ordered the accused not to disturb the victim.

He fixed March 20 for mention pending forensic and medical reports.

Muhaimin said the accused would be under the care of her father, who posted bail.

The girl's mother was also present in court.

Earlier, the girl, who was seated in the accused gallery, looked towards the public gallery, possibly looking for her family members.

She was calm throughout the proceedings.
