Two from MCA reappointed as senators

KUALA LUMPUR: Two MCA leaders have been reappointed and sworn in as senators today.

The two were party vice-president Datuk Dr Hou Kok Chung, also a former Deputy Minister of Higher Education and its publicity bureau chairman Datuk Chai Kim Sen.

The senators took their oath of office in front of Dewan Negara president Datuk S A Vigneswaran who reminded them to carry out their duties accordingly and defend the Federal Constitution.

When met after the swearing-in ceremony, Hou said he was very grateful to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and his party, MCA.

“I am thankful for the opportunity and vow to do my best in serving Malaysia,” he said.

“As a former academician, I would like to uphold issues pertaining to education, especially the tertiary level. However, this does not mean that I will not give importance to other issues,” said Hou.

Meanwhile, Chai also thanked Barisan Nasional and MCA for the trust given and promised to continue carrying out his duties responsibly.

“Three years ago when I was first appointed as senator, I used the opportunity to solve issues related to traders, especially for the Chinese community,” said Chai, who is also the president for a non-governmental organisation, Gabungan Ikatan Persatuan Cina Malaysia.

“I am confident that I will be able to play my role in ensuring that the people’s needs are met.” he added.
