KUALA LUMPUR: The government will provide all eligible Malaysians a one-off RM30 incentive to speed up the adoption of e-wallet usage in the country.
Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng, in tabling the 2020 Budget, said the one-off payment is to encourage the public, small businesses and retail stores to accept digital payment.
"This one-off payment will be given to all Malaysians aged 18 and above who have an annual income of not more than RM100,000.
"What is needed is an e-wallet account with a verified identity through chosen service providers," he said.
Lim said the one-off payment can be claimed and used within two months, between Jan 1 and Feb 29, 2020.
"The government will allocate RM450 million to Khazanah Nasional Bhd for this incentive, which will benefit 15 million Malaysians," he added.
