Mara to call Annuar for statement over football sponsorship

KUANTAN: The Mara internal audit committee is expected to call up suspended Mara chairman Tan Sri Annuar Musa soon to complete their probe into the graft allegations linked to abuse of funds and sponsorship of the Kelantan football team.

Mara acting chairman Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob said the move to call Annuar was to give him an opportunity to explain his side of the story with regards to the allegations.

“It is up to the committee to decide when to call him up but it will be done soon.

“The committee requires some time to complete their investigations as they conducted in-depth analysis (based on the findings of the probe),” he told reporters after attending the Mara Entrepreneurs Appreciation Night and launching the UsahawanMARA.biz platform here on Saturday night.

Annuar, who is Ketereh member of parliament and Umno information chief, was suspended with immediate effect on Jan 31 after the Mara board held an emergency meeting and the suspension also extended to his position as the head of Mara Investment Bhd.

This was to allow investigation on the allegation of Annuar's involvement in the sponsorship of The Red Warriors football team.

On Feb 3, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission had questioned Annuar over allegations of abuse of power and misappropriation of funds.

In his speech at the event earlier, Yusuf launched the “Usahawan MARA.biz” platform which is a specially tailored directory developed to guide entrepreneurs to widen their business network and be focused on global thinking.

He said the directory an initiative by Mara Pahang will pave the way for an easier access to obtain information and data on entrepreneurs operating in the state.

Yusof said based on records there were more than 1,200 entrepreneurs from various fields who have registered with the portal.
