Leaders come and go but party's struggles remain the same: Terengganu Umno Youth chief

KUALA TERENGGANU: The Malays and Bumiputeras have greatly benefitted in terms of education and socio-economy, thanks to the efforts of Umno.

Terengganu Umno Youth chief Johari Abu Bakar, 42, said the party had always put the interests of the people at hand as its top priority, no matter what the situation was.

“Our principles have remained, that of protecting the interests of the people, despite a change in leadership.

“Leaders come and go but our struggles are consistent with the agenda to safeguard the religion, race and nation,” said Johari, who is also special advisor to Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman.

He added that the welfare of youths were constantly being monitored to ensure their well-being was being taken care of.

“Our ears and eyes are always open for them, as we find ways to address issues affecting them like the cost of living, job opportunities and housing.

“Some of the issues can be overcome quickly while some others take time to be settled but eventually we manage somehow to find a solution,” he said.

Johari added that Umno was constantly relevant, from its inception till today and the future, as its leadership was in line with the change of times.

“This is especially so with the ‘TN50’ vision and mission where the voices and aspirations of the younger generation is given attention for the benefit of future generations.

“We welcome the ideas of leaders with a vision of 5 to 10 years ahead, that will bring comfort for the people.

“This is in line with the principle of giving priority to the people in order to achieve success and overcome problems,” he said.

Johari added he was proud to be Malaysian and an Umno member.

Meanwhile, thousands of Terengganu’s 284,000-strong Umno members turned up to welcome the party’s flag that arrived at Kampung Pachakan, in Kuala Besut from across the Kelantan border, on Thursday.

The event was the start of the state-level Flag Run held in conjunction with Umno’s 71st anniversary celebrations to be held at Bukit Jalil in Kuala Lumpur on May 11.

State Agriculture and Agro-based Industries, Plantation Industry and Commodities committee chairman Datuk Muhammad Pehimi Yusof, who is Jertih state assemblyman, officiated at the flag-receiving ceremony at Kuala Besut.

From Kuala Besut, the flag is being passed on to each of the Umno division chiefs, before it makes its way to Pahang and then to Selangor and Putrajaya before the mammoth 120,000 gathering at Bukit Jalil.

After Kampung Pachakan, the flag was carried to Padang Bola Kampung Teluk Bayu, Kampung Gerai in Setiu and then to Dataran Ketara in Besut.

Today, the flag proceeded to Kampung Teris, Dataran Kuala Ping, Dataran Kuala Berang and Sekolah Kebangsaan Tanjung Ampuan Intan in Telemong, Hulu Terengganu.

It then proceeded to Pasar Manir and Dataran Austin in Kuala Nerus, and Bangunan Umno Gong Kapas in Kuala Terengganu.

Tomorrow, the flag will make its way to Sekolah Rendah Gong Kapas, then on to Bukit Chendering, Marang and Rantau Abang, in Dungun.

On Sunday, the flag will be brought to Rantau Petronas in Paka, then to Kemasik, Kijal, Bukit Anak Dara, Ibok, Air Putih, Bandar Chukai, Masjid Geliga and Simpang Kg Berenjut in Kemaman, before being handed over to the Pahang representative in Chendor.
