KUALA LUMPUR: Customers of a barbecue restaurant in Taman Melawati were dumbfounded when a group of men armed with machetes barged into the premises and relieved them of their valuables.
In a one-minute video that has surfaced on social media, customers could be seen enjoying their dinner when four men in full-faced crash helmets entered the restaurant at 9.42pm yesterday.
The men waved their machetes around and demanded the victims to hand over their valuables.
The victims were seen giving their valuables to the men without hesitation.
Ampang Jaya district police chief Assistant Commissioner Hamzah Alias said the men also took cash and money box from the restaurant before they fled.
“A police team was deployed to the restaurant once we were notified. We have taken the close-circuit-television camera footages from the shop and investigation is on-going,” he said.
The men carted away various valuables including mobile phones worth about RM29,745. They fled on three Yamaha Y150LC motorcycles in blue, orange and purple.
Hamzah urged the public who have any information on the incident to come forward to facilitate investigation.
The case is being investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code for gang-robbery and armed robbery.
