KUALA LUMPUR: Umno President Datuk Seri Najib Razak was greeted with thunderous applause and cheers by some 100,000 Umno members upon his arrival at the party’s 71st anniversary celebration today.
The Prime Minister arrived at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium at 8.50pm. He made a grand entrance on a buggy where he was accompanied by his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.
Najib’s arrival was also greeted with the song “Inilah Barisan Kita” playing in the background as loyal Umno members cheered and waved the Sang Saka Bangsa flag.
Also accompanying him were Umno vice-presidents Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein.
Najib then went onto the stage and shortly after, Umno Youth Chief Khairy Jamaluddin led the Umno 71st anniversary flag run team into the stadium to pass on the Sang Saka Bangsa flag to Najib.
The audience then were asked to stand up to sing Negaraku and followed by Umno’s Bersatu Bersetia Berkhidmat as Najib raised the flag.
