C-Cycle Challenge: Cyclists from 16 nations coming

KUALA LUMPUR: THE much-anticipated inaugural cycling event organised by the New Straits Times, C-Cycle Challenge, will kick off in less than 48 hours.

New Straits Times Press marketing general manager Farah Ezrin Mohd Rashidi said the event had received participation from international cyclists.

“We have received participation from cyclists from 16 countries, including Norway, Germany and the United States.”

She said the event was not only for cyclists, but also for families.

“Our partner, EcoWorld, will organise a mini carnival consisting of games and interactive activities for family members.

“There will be kids-friendly games, such as cooling globe, inflatable snookball,  inflatable futsal, Juice Bike and old-school arcade machines.

“Another partner, Volkswagen, will let people test drive their cars.

“NST will have a booth to promote our products. We will also give out freebies.

“Each cyclist will receive a race kit and a three-month free subscription to NST’s e-paper.

“They also stand to win lucky draws,” she said, adding that the prizes were worth up to RM10,000.

She said among the things to be won included a foldable bike worth RM2,000, trainer, bicycle accessories and components.

She said the ride would be divided into two categories: the Century Ride and Fun Ride.

“Century Ride will be a 160km ride that passes through several locations, including Kapar, Batu Arang, Bandar Tasik Puteri, Bestari Jaya, Tanjung Arang and back to Puncak Alam.

“The Fun Ride, which covers 35km, will cross Pekan Meru, UiTM Puncak Alam Campus and Bandar Puncak Alam,” she said.

Farah said the challenge offered cash prizes of RM2,500, RM1,500 and RM1,000 for first, second and third places for the men’s open, women’s open and senior men’s open categories.

“Fourth to 10th places will receive RM800, RM600, RM500, RM400, RM300, RM200 and RM100, respectively.

“Five of the best cyclists in a team could compete to win the team category and the five could walk away with cash up to RM4,500.

“For the team challenge category, the finishing time of the top three men’s or women’s open and two men’s senior open from each team will determine the best team performance time, and the team winner could walk away with cash up to RM4,500,” she said.
