No need to question Jais' action over Sivarasa issue, says Tok Pa

KOTA BARU: The public should not question the action taken by the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) over a controversy involving Subang Member of Parliament R. Sivarasa.

Jeli MP and International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed said the Constitution is also clear that Islam is under the jurisdiction of the Sultan.

"No one should argue over the decision as it was made after a proper assessment which we need to adhere to it," he told reporters after breaking of fast at a hotel here last night.

Mustapa was commenting on the controversy over Sivarasa's appearance at a Subang mosque, where he was accused of delivering a ceramah to the congregation.

Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah had reportedly expressed his displeasure over the MP's conduct and had ordered Jais to haul up the mosque committee over the incident.

Sivarasa has since denied that his ceramah was a political one.

Meanwhile, Mustapa said the incident could be demeed accidental if it was the first time it had happened.

"However, I have been made to understand that this wasn't the first time," he claimed.
