JEMPOL: Eight people were killed, including six burnt to death, in a four-vehicle accident at Km25 Jalan Bahau-Keratong here, this afternoon.
The 2.30pm incident involved a trailer, a Proton Exora, a Perodua MyVi and a Toyota Vios.
Jempol district police chief Superintendent Noorzainy Mohd Noor said one passenger was also injured in the accident.
At the moment, police have identified two victims – they are the MyVi driver and passenger, Osman Mohamed Taip, 31 and Rosniza Othman.
The process of identifying the six burnt victims is still on-going.
It is believed that the accident occurred when the trailer, travelling from Keratong to Bahau, allegedly failed to overtake a motorcycle.
The trailer driver stepped on his brakes to avoid the oncoming MyVi.
The MyVi managed to swerve to avoid the trailer but crashed into a Vios instead.
Following behind the trailer, was an Exora. It is understood that the driver did not managed to stop in time, crashing right into the trailer.
“The two occupants from the Perodua Myvi were thrown out of the car and died on the scene. Their remains were sent to Jempol hospital.
“Another six victims were passengers from the Proton Exora which burst into flames after it rammed into the trailer,” said Noorzainy.
Negri Sembilan Fire and Rescue Department director Norazam Khamis said firemen faced difficulties in extracting the victims out of the Proton Exora as it was crushed under the trailer.
As at press time, three victims have been pulled out from the Proton Exora while another three are still trapped in the wreckage.
Norazam said three fire engines from Bandar Seri Jempol, Bahau and Simpang Pertang have been despatched to the scene.
