Remains of RMAF Hawk 108 pilots flown to home towns for burial

KUANTAN: The body of Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) pilot Major Mohd Hasri Zahari was seen carried out of a surau at the RMAF Kuantan air base here early this morning to be flown back to his home town of Jempol, Negri Sembilan.

The body, whose casket was covered with the Jalur Gemilang and RMAF flag, was carried out of the surau and into a hearse, escorted by family members and his fellow pilots.

The body of his comrade, pilot Major Yazmi Mohamed Yusof was also carried out of the surau and placed in a separate hearse en route to the RMAF Kuantan air base here to be flown back to his home town of Tasik Titiwangsa, Kuala Lumpur.

His casket was also covered with the Jalur Gemilang and RMAF flag, and was escorted by around 200 people comprising his family members and fellow pilots

Yazmi, 39, and Mohd Hasri, 31, were found dead at Chukai, Terengganu yesterday afternoon following the disappearance of the RMAF Hawk 108 they were in.

Following a post mortem at the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA) here, the deceased duo's remains were brought to the surau for prayers at around 5.45am this morning.

Hasri is expected to be loaded onto a waiting Eurocopter EC725 to be flown to Jempol.

He was expected to arrive at a public field there at around 8.15am today, with his burial scheduled at his home town of Felda Lui Muda at 9am.

Yazmi's body, meanwhile, is expected to be flown later this morning onto a waiting C130 H aircraft to the RMAF Subang Air Base in Kuala Lumpur.

He was scheduled to arrive there at around 9.15am today, with his burial planned at Tanah Perkuburan Tasik Titiwangsa, Kuala Lumpur, at around 10am.

Yesterday, the RMAF lost contact with their aircraft half an hour after it departed from the RMAF Kuantan air base here at 11am.

The duo's bodies, still attached to their parachutes, were found by the RMAF search and rescue (SAR) team in a swamp area in Chukai, Terengganu, at 2.30pm yesterday.
