KOTA KINABALU: A mamak restaurant here was ordered closed today after customers spotted two rats rummaging freely on a food cabinet.
The incident was recorded by a phone camera and the uploaded footage has since gone viral.
Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK)’s Public Relations and Complaints Department director Syron A. Tunggolou said an immediate inspection was conducted on the eatery at Likas Plaza yesterday following a complaint.
The inspection was carried out by the DBKK Environmental Health Department and Kota Kinabalu Health Department.
During the spot-check, enforcement officers found rat droppings and gave the eatery a 28.8 per cent rating in terms of cleanliness.
“We have ordered the shop to be closed effective today. The operator will only be allowed to resume operations once our officer in-charge is satisfied with the shop’s improvement and cleanliness,” Syron said.
The order was issued under the Public Health Ordinance 1960.
