Johor has highest number of rape cases, Sabah tops incest numbers

KUALA LUMPUR: Johor has recorded the highest number of rape cases nationwide, with 2,089 cases or 15.73 per cent of the total, from 2010 until May this year.

As for incest cases, Sabah has the highest number of incidences at 263 cases, or 14.64 per cent of the total.

These figures were announced by Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim at the Dewan Rakyat today.

Selangor, meanwhile, has the highest recorded number of cases of sex against the order of nature, with 235 cases or 20.39 per cent. The state also tops the number of sexual assault cases with 1,052 incidences or 17.4 per cent.

For the same period (2010 to May 2017), 2,244 physic abuse cases were recorded. Most of the perpetrators are men while the victims are usually women.

Rohani also announced police statistics from the same period, such as overall rape cases (13,272, or 59.7 per cent); incest (1,796 cases or 8.07 per cent), unnatural sex (1,152 cases or 5.18 per cent), and sexual assault (6,014 cases or 27.04 per cent.)

Rohani was responding to a question by Zuraida Kamaruddin (PKR-Ampang) on statistics regarding child abuse cases (sexual and non-sexual), by state, gender of victim and offenders as well as relationship between victim and offender from 2010 to 2016, and the number of charges and convictions made.
