More graft, abuse of power cases to be revealed soon, says MACC chief

GEORGE TOWN: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today declared that it will soon unveil even more graft and abuse of power cases.

Urging the people to support the commission's crusade against the wrong-doers, MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Dzulkifli Ahmad warned that stern action will be meted out against the culprits.

He said MACC is aware that many Federal and states' government policies did not reach the masses due to leakages during implementation.

"As such, MACC will act against those responsible, whether at the ministry level, among government-linked companies, government departments or agencies.

"There are many such cases on our radar; we vow to come down hard on those responsible, especially those who betray the people's trust," he said.

He was here to witness the signing ceremony of MACC's corruption-free pledge by 10 clusters, representing over 100 non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in the state, at Universiti Sains Malaysia, here tonight.

The event was organised by the Malaysia Corruption Watch (MCW), a new NGO.

Present were state MACC director Datuk Abdul Aziz Aban and MCW president Jais Abdul Karim.

Dzulkifli did not offee details of the cases.

Meanwhile, Dzulkifli urged the people to be the "eyes and ears" of the MACC, and keep a close watch on all states governments as well as other parties which had signed the corruption-free pledge.

"Make sure they fully abide by the pledge they signed. If they fail to do so, we will not hesitate to act against them," he said, citing Penang as an example which has vowed to implement 15 measures in the state's fight against corruption.

He also expressed hope for other organisations which have yet to sign the pledge to do so by the end of this year.

"With this, we are one step closer to reaching our aim of becoming a corruption-free nation by 2020."
