A sombre farewell for Puan Sri Lee Kim Hua

KUALA LUMPUR: Family, relatives and friends have come to pay their last respects to Puan Sri Lee Kim Hua, the widow of the late Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong, at her home where the wake is being held.

Flowers lined the walkway from the residence’s front gate to the front door. The coffin was set up in the brightly lit living room.

In the foyer, soothing music is being played and everyone is talking quietly. The mood was sombre.

MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai and secretary-general Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan were among those who came to pay their last respects to Lee.

Liow remembers Lee as someone motherly, who is kind and warm.

“MCA would like to send our deepest condolences to Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay and family. Lee has been the pillar of Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong and the Genting Group.

“I have known Lee for many years ever since my youth. As the Member of Parliament of Bentong, I used to go to the family's open house and other family functions.

Liow said the last time he saw Lee was at the Chinese New Year open house at Genting Highlands.

“As we all know, Genting has been contributing to our nation's economy including our transformation today where they continue to attract a lot of investments especially local investment to spur the country's economy,” he said.

Lee passed away peacefully at the age of 88 yesterday.

The family observes the Taoist funeral rites and the wake is being held at the family's residence in Taman Duta, Kuala Lumpur beginning this evening until Monday at 11pm.

Lee’s husband, Genting Group founder Lim Goh Tong, died in 2007, and his inheritance was held in trust to benefit Lee, her children and grandchildren.
