SEMPORNA: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) intercepted a boat laden with explosives and stolen items near here today.
District MMEA director Lieutenant Commander Maritime Amiludin Yenggah said they received a tip-off on the boat from a tourist jetty manager.
The boat was reported to have been moving around the jetty in a suspicious manner in the middle of the night.
“MMEA intercepted the boat at around 3.30am, but the two boatmen jumped into the sea.
“They swam towards a water village and disappeared,” Amiludin said in a statement.
Upon inspection of the boat, the MMEA found a 15-horsepower engine, a cutter and three bottles believed to be used for fish bombing.
The boat was brought to the jetty here for further investigation.
