BATU PAHAT: An elderly couple was instantly killed when their motorcycle was rammed by a car in an accident at KM5 Jalan Bukit Pasir this morning.
Wahadi Jamos, 62, and Rokiah Jangi, 65, died on the spot when their motorcycle collided with a Perodua Viva which had entered their path from the opposite lane.
Batu Pahat police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Wahib Musa said the two people in the Viva were believed to be under the influence of drugs when the accident occurred.
Witnesses claimed that the Viva was moving erratically on the road prior to the crash.
The car's male driver fled when he was brought to the Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital. His female passenger, meanwhile, appeared to be hallucinating, said hospital staff.
"We believe the two suspects in the Viva were under the influence of drugs. Based on hospital checks, the female passenger was hallucinating and traumatised from the crash," said Wahib.
Wahib said police are on the lookout for the male driver. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 2987 for causing death by reckless driving.
