Khalid appointed Prasarana Chairman and Special Envoy

KUALA LUMPUR: Former Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar has been appointed as the new Prasarana Malaysia Bhd (Prasarana) group chairman.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak in a statement today said Khalid’s appointment as Prasarana chairman was to replace Tan Sri Ismail Adam who completed his term on Aug 31, 2017.

"Tan Sri Khalid will continue with the mission and vision of Prasarana to build and provide world-class public transportation and to increase its use,” he added.

On behalf of the government, the prime minister thanked Ismail for his contributions during his tenure as Prasarana chairman.

Najib also announced that Khalid who retired as the nation’s top cop yesterday was also appointed as Special Envoy for combating terrorism, extremism and human trafficking.

He said the post of Special Envoy was for the purpose of boosting ties and cooperation between Malaysia and the international community in three designated areas.

“This is in view of the wide experience and good relations of Tan Sri Khalid with international agencies in tackling these problems throughout his tenure as Inspector-General of Police,” Najib said.

Khalid who turned 60-years-old today and is on compulsory retirement from the Royal Malaysian Police since yesterday, had served the force for the past 40-years.

The Seremban born joined the Police force as an inspector on Dec 5, 1976.

Khalid officially handed over the top cop position to Datuk Seri Fuzi Harun yesterday morning, in a ceremony witnessed by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi at the Police Training Centre here.
