Fatal Bandar Baru Puchong crash believed to be due to speeding

KUALA LUMPUR: Speeding was believed to be the cause of the Lebuhraya Damansara – Puchong fatal crash which killed one and another injured this morning.

The 6.40am accident involved a Volkswagen Jetta and lorry at Km22.7 of the highway.

Lim Ji Qin, 28, a passenger of the car, was pronounced dead on the spot.

The driver of the car, Tan Zi Xuan, 27, was injured while the lorry driver escaped unhurt.

Serdang police chief Assistant Commissioner Megat Mohamad Aminuddin Megat Alias said the car was travelling from Puchong to Putrajaya at high-speed on the left-most lane when it rear-ended the lorry.

“The impact caused both lorry and car to spin and crash into the left and right shoulders of the highway respectively.

“The car driver was sent to Serdang Hospital for treatment. Investigation still on-going to determine the cause of the incident,” he said today.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving, he said.

The fatal crash caused a massive traffic crawl along the Damansara-Puchong Highway (LDP) for the early morning rush-hour traffic, adding at least one hour travelling time for motorists using the route, then the usual travel time.

Meanwhile, Selangor Fire and Rescue Department operations officer Muhamad Hissam Sidik said a team from Puchong fire station was dispatched to the accident scene at 6.45am.

He said the rescue team found the victim had died when they arrived at the scene, adding that the team also extinguished fire at the car’s engine.
