KL tahfiz fire: Condolences stream in from leaders, Netizens

KUALA LUMPUR: Leaders from across the divide have come out in force to express their condolences for the victims who died in a pre-dawn blaze that engulfed a religious school here.

On social media, tributes have been pouring in as early as as 6am from Netizens for the victims of the tragic incident.

Wanita Umno chief Datuk Seri Tan Sri Shahrizat Abd Jalil said she was saddened by the devastation, which left at least 24 people dead.

“It is a shocking piece of news for all of us.

“Immediate action should definitely be taken to avoid such incidents from occurring in the future,” she told reporters after visiting the charred Darul Quran Ittifaqiyah Tahfiz Centre in Jalan Datuk Keramat here today.

She said news reports that at least 30 fires occurred in tahfiz schools nationwide was unacceptable.

“On behalf of Wanita Umno, I will donate RM5,000 to the school’s principal to help those affected by the fire.”

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, who is currently on a working visit to the United States, had earlier expressed his condolences to the victims through social media.
