SERDANG: Some 600 sales and exhibition booths including food trucks will set up stalls at the Serdang Malaysia Agricultural Expo Park (MAEPS) in conjunction with the National Farmers Day and Malaysian Food Festival (HPPNK) 2017, tomorrow.
The event will be held over four days from Sept 28 to Oct 1, from 10am to 10pm.
Among the main attractions of the event are the exhibitions of various unique fruit and food from Johor including the giant ‘Subang Jackfruit’ which weighs more than 30kg and the popular velvet apple or scientifically known as Diospyros blancoi.
Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek said about 500,000 visitors are expected to attend the event.
“Both local and international visitors are expected to attend this yearly event. Not to forget, for our youth out there, we have invented ‘Agro Youth Camp’ for them to join in the festivities and with more than 1,500 youngsters have booked the spaces.
“They are eager to showcase their online business and inventions at this festival,” he said during a media tour.
MAEPS chief operating officer Norhafizah Rahman said this is a great platform to allow various parties to showcase their produce and for the public to appreciate the hard work that each farmer, breeder and fisherman put in to haul in their harvest from nature.
“Many farming related activities available for the visitors, so we hope that the agro-food enthusiasts, agricultural players and also fruit lovers will join us here from tomorrow onwards."
“With the theme of ‘Our Food, Our Future’, visitors will have the opportunity to explore the world of food from farm and ocean right to the dining table,” she said.
Strategic collaboration between agencies and departments under the ministry is expected to enhance the momentum of technology and innovation in all sectors to ensure there will be no shortage in the country’s food and agricultural supply.
At the event, facilities that will be provided include prayer rooms, toilets, information counters and services for disabled people, car parks and shuttles to bring visitors to the exhibition and sale sites.
Also joining the festival are Malaysian celebrities such as Fara Fauzana, Aiman Tino, Mat Dan, Yabang, Khalifah Band, Elizabeth Tan, and Eka Sharif, who will be holding meet the fans sessions.
