KUALA LUMPUR: A police bomb disposal unit was despatched to a major shopping mall in Jalan Bukit Bintang following the discovery of a suspicious package near the building entrance at midnight last night.
Members of the public, fearing it could be a bomb, had alerted the police about 10pm.
The package was hung up near an electrical box at the front of the mall.
The presence of numerous police vehicles drew a gaggle of curious onlookers and led to police cordoning off the area.
As a safety precaution, the bomb disposal unit neutralised the package at 1.50am.
The package did not contain any explosives.
Dang Wangi police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Sukri Kaman confirmed that the 4" X 2" box did not contain any harmful materials.
However, police will scrutinise CCTV cameras to find out who had placed the package there and to establish the person's motive for doing so.
