KUALA LUMPUR: The government will introduce a programme for students to protect them against sexual crimes including incest, the Dewan Rakyat heard today.
Women, Family and Community Development Deputy Minister Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun said this was part of efforts to reduce sexual crimes against children.
“We will provide information on safety aspects as well as educating them on sexual threats from strangers and family members,” she said in response to a question from Alice Lau Kiong Yieng (DAP-Lanang) on plans by the ministry to reduce incest cases.
Azizah said the programme would include a subject on child safety called “Sahabat B.I.J.A.K”.
She said the ministry would collaborate with the Education Ministry, Health Department and police to organise the programme for the students.
On a similar note, she said the public could lodge complaints through E-Kasih hotline at 15999 and Childline to report any sexual or social issues.
She said reports from the hotline would be forwarded to the relevant authorities such as the police and Welfare Department to take suitable actions.
"Counselling services are also available to provide emotional support to victims."
Azizah also said 36 cases which were prosecuted under the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017
had been disposed of by the courts since it was gazetted on July 10.
