SEREMBAN: A mat rempit was killed when his motorcycle skidded while he was fleeing from the police at Jalan Taman Rantau, near the Rantau public hall here on Saturday night.
The 22-year-old suffered severe head injuries when he was thrown from his vehicle during the police chase, and died at the scene despite attempts to save him.
The incident occurred when police received reports from members of the public that a group of mat rempit, including the deceased, was “acting suspicious” near Bandar Ekar Rantau here.
"Acting on the report, a police team was sent to patrol the area. The group (fled) when they realised the police's presence.
"One police officer tried to pursue the (deceased) and his motorcycle skidded (during the chase),” said Seremban district police chief Assistant Commissioner Thiew Hock Poh.
The deceased was sent to the Tuanku Jaafar Hospital for a post-mortem, and the case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Thiew urged members of the public with information on the incident to visit their nearest police station to help with the investigation.
