ROMPIN: A lorry driver suffered severe burns when his vehicle, loaded with palm oil, skidded to the side of the road and burst into flames at Km140.8 of Jalan Kuantan-Seremban near Bukit Serok Muadzam Shah here on Friday morning.
In the 1.30am incident, M Sivakumar, 44, was heading to Seremban to deliver his palm oil supply when he lost control of his vehicle.
“The lorry skidded to the edge of a hill, causing the palm oil he was carrying to spill all over the road,” Rompin district police chief Deputy Superintendent Azli Mohd Noor said.
He said a fire broke out and Sivakumar was pinned to his seat – but he was saved by members of the public.
He was rushed to the Muadzam Shah Hospital (MSH) before being transferred to the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (TAAH) for further treatment.
“We have yet to get the victim’s statement as he is still unconscious,” Azli added.
