KANGAR: An elderly woman drowned after she slipped and fell into a river at Kampung Perseri Abi here early Sunday.
The incident occurred at 8am when Minah Daud, 84, was disposing of rubbish at a dumpsite near the river, not far from her house.
When Minah failed to return home after about 30 minutes, her daughter immediately alerted the authorities.
Minah’s son, Sharil Daud, 42, said that he and a group of villagers combed the area for his mother, and they eventually found her near the riverbank, 200 metres from their home.
“Her body was found at 9am. Our village was not hit by floods and the weather today was fine,” he said.
Kangar district police chief Superintendent Wari Kiew said an investigation revealed that the victim had slipped and fallen into the river, and that no foul play was involved.
