Better quality 'kelulut' honey with new nano coating product

TUARAN: NanoMalaysia Bhd has released its latest nano coating product to prevent and treat fungal growth in honey.

Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau said the product could prevent wastage of honey in the nest, thus increasing the revenue for ‘madu kelulut’ producers.

“The product can help honey producers remove contaminated substances to ensure the ‘madu kelulut’ is clean and free from yeast.

“Fungal growth is a reason many ‘madu kelulut’ producers have a hard time producing quality honey. The new nano coating product can solve this problem.”

Wilfred was speaking after launching the closing ceremony of the Agro Youth Entrepreneurs Development Programme for the madu kelulut industry with the use of nanotech at Dewan Tun Hamdan in Tamparuli here today.

NanoMalaysia Bhd is an agency under the Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry. Its chief executive officer Dr Rezal Khairi Ahmad, was present at the event.

The company’s new product has been used by honey producers in Kedah, Pahang (Pulau Tioman), Sarawak and several districts in Sabah.

“This will enhance the socio-economic status of those developing ‘madu kelulut’ products, such as soap, drinks and health and beauty products,” Madius said.

Rezal said NanoMalaysia Bhd was responsible for coordinating and planning research and commercialisation of nanotechnology in the country.
