Express bus plunges down slope after driver loses control

KULAI: Passengers of an express bus had a scare when the vehicle plunged down a slope in an accident on the North South Expressway here.

The bus was on its way to Johor Baru from Kuala Lumpur when the accident happened at about 1pm. The driver lost control of the bus after avoiding a lorry.

It crashed into the divider, grazed a car on the opposite lane before plunging into the slope.

Kulai police chief Superintendent Dzulkhairi Mokhtar said one passenger, a co-driver and the driver of the car were injured in the accident.

There were 26 passengers and two drivers on board the bus while the car driver was travelling alone.

"One of the 26 passengers on board, a 26-year old Indonesian man, suffered injuries to his leg and was rushed to the Kulai hospital.

"The rest of the passengers aged between 19 and 64, were reported to be safe and unhurt but are still shaken and traumatised by the incident," said Dzulkhairi, adding that the co-driver of the bus also sustained a minor injury on his left hand.

He said the driver of a car that was travelling on the opposite lane, which grazed the out-of-control bus, was also injured.

The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving.
