JOHOR BARU: SK Punan in Kluang remains the only school in Johor to be forced to close today as flood water continues to cut off the access road to the school.
State Health, Environment, Education and Information Executive Committee chairman Datuk Ayub Rahmat said the 11 teachers of SK Punan, who were stranded and unable to get to the school, have been instructed to report themselves at SK Kahang.
"However, a school operation assistant, who is a resident of Kampung Punan, are present at the school," said Ayub.
Meanwhile, the number of flood evacuees in Johor rose to 426 victims from 113 families, with the majority of them in Mersing.
Johor Civil Defence Force director Col Mat Zin Bujang said a total of 393 victims from 105 families are currently being sheltered at seven temporary relief centres in Mersing.
Among the areas affected by the flood in Mersing are Taman Nakhoda, Air Papan, Kampung. Tanjung Genting, Kampung Tenglu Besar, Kampung Kelantan in Endau and Kampung Air Tawar.
"In Kota Tinggi, 33 victims from eight families are currently seeking shelter at two relief centres," said Mat Zin.
Kampung Bukit Raja and Kampung Sungai Buntu are the two areas in Kota Tinggi that are affected by the floods.
