Foam at Pantai Teluk Cempedak

KUANTAN: Visitors to Pantai Teluk Cempedak here on Thursday were taken by surprise by the presence of (white) foam at the seaside, which sustained for about an hour from noon.

Zarul Ikhwan Sidek, 29, initially thought it was simply children playing at the beach.

“But then the foam appeared to increase. When I went closer, I realised that they were brought by the wind and lined the whole shore,” he told Bernama when met today.

Trader Awi Ahmad, 60, who had been operating a souvenir shop in the vicinity for two years said the phenomenon was a first for him.

“I have heard about similar occurrences at Pantai Balok and Pantai Batu Hitam, which are located near Pantai Teluk Cempedak,” he said.

Another trader who only wanted to be identified as Liew, 50, said he was quite unconcerned about the incident and said the foam were similar to those produced during washing and had a pleasant smell.

Meanwhile, Pahang Environment Department director Rosli Zul when contacted confirmed that such phenomenon had occurred before in Kuantan and the last was reportedly at Pantai Balok in early February, 2017.

“It’s too early to tell what caused the incident,” he said, adding that an officer had already taken samples and obtained statements from the witnesses. - Bernama
