KUANTAN: The Pahang Royal Family Welfare Body wants the police to identify the individual responsible for spreading a video of the Sultan of Pahang Sultan Ahmad Shah in his bed during his birthday celebration, which has gone viral.
Its committee member, Datuk Seri Wan Abdul Wahid Wan Hassan, said the video allegedly recorded during Sultan Ahmad Shah’s birthday in October last year, had gone viral on social media since last week.
He described the action to spread the viral video of the ruler as against the etiquette and such actions were inappropriate as it was now being publicly viewed.
“The sultan is in his private area, which is his bedroom, and this is a sensitive matter. The sultan is a public figure and this action to spread the video could tarnish the image of the royal institution.
“One should respect the ruler and not commit such actions (of recording and spreading the video). We must always protect the royal institution and action should be taken against those responsible for spreading the video,” he said told reporters after he lodged a police report to investigate the matter at the district police station today.
Wan Abdul Wahid said he hoped the authorities would investigate and nab the individuals involved, and those behind the viral video will be prevented from entering the palace compound.
Meanwhile, Wan Abdul Wahid said he also lodged a police report against Pokok Sena Member of Parliament Datuk Mahfuz Omar when he commented on the poor health of the sultan and compared it to that of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s (PPBM) chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
He said Mahfuz must apologise to Sultan Ahmad Shah over his statement as his actions had upset the Pahang Royal Family Welfare Body.
“As an experienced politician, he must not involve the sultan of Pahang in his statement as there are differences between the royal institution and politics. We strongly condemn his action and urge the police to investigate and take action,” he said.
Mahfuz, who made the statement during a political speech, was captured on video speaking on the health of the ruler and the clip subsequently went viral.
Besides the Pahang Royal Family Welfare Body, Pertubuhan Kebajikan Dakwah Islamiah (Pekida), Pahang Farmers Organisation and Pahang Muaythai Association also lodged police reports against Mahfuz today.
