PETALING JAYA: After 48-hours, the family of the two young siblings allegedly taken away from a kindergarten in Section 16 by an unknown individual on Wednesday has yet to know their whereabouts.
The two, six-year-old Raheel Khan Mohd Saleem, and his sister Aleeya Reyhana, 4, were allegedly kidnapped by a woman who came with two other men in a white MPV and took them away in the 9am incident.
The childrens' aunt, Najmah Mohd Haslam, 42, when met at her house in Shah Alam today, said the family suspects that the children were most likely taken away by their biological mother, who was divorced from her brother in 2016.
"We believe that their mother, who is a New Zealander, might be behind the sibling's disappearance but we cannot gain access to the CCTV recording from the kindergarten, to confirm this," she said expressing concern for their safety.
Najmah said the mother should at least have informed the family as they have never stopped her from seeing the children since they moved to Shah Alam after the divorce.
"We have tried contacting her but she has not been cooperative. Worst still, she has even blocked our calls and messages. This reaction from her increases our suspicions that the children might be with her," Najmah said, adding that the family was worried because the mother may take the children back to New Zealand, if they don't act fast.
Raheel Khan and Aleeya Reyhana's disappearance was only discovered by the family in the afternoon when the aunt had gone to the kindergarten to fetch them.
Najmah said a teacher there had told her that a woman claiming to be their biological parent had taken them on the pretext of taking them for a medical check-up in the morning.
"My brother hasn't slept since the day they were taken and is worried about their safety. I really hope that the police can help us recover the CCTV recording or just show it to us, for us to be sure that the children are safe with their mother," she said, adding that a police report on their disappearance was lodged the same night.
Meanwhile, district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zani Che Din when contacted said the case was under investigation.
"It's too soon for us to make any conclusion at this point. Give us time to investigate," he said.
