KOTA KINABALU: Police will submit the investigation papers for the fatal accident that claimed the lives of two siblings on Jalan Kepayan here last Friday to the deputy public prosecutor (DPP) tomorrow.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Kasim Muda said that they are currently finalising the investigation into a male suspect believed to be responsible for the accident.
"The 22-year-old suspect is still under remand until tomorrow, and we will complete the investigation as soon as possible to submit to the deputy public prosecutor tomorrow.
"The case is being investigated under Section 44(1)(b) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said when contacted today.
Kasim added that the remand period for the suspect might be extended to complete the investigation.
Earlier, on Aug 30, two siblings were found burnt to death in a Perodua Axia car following an accident involving three vehicles at the KKIA traffic lights on Jalan Kepayan here.
Preliminary investigations at the scene revealed that a Toyota Hilux driven by a local man in his 20s, travelling from Tanjung Aru towards Putatan, had collided with the victims' car.
The collision caused the victims' car to spin into the middle lane, hitting the right side of another vehicle, a Perodua Viva.
As a result, the Perodua Axia veered off the road near a pedestrian bridge and caught fire.
Both victims in the Perodua Axia were extracted by the fire department and were pronounced dead at the scene by a doctor from Queen Elizabeth I Hospital (HQEI).
