PEKAN: Housewife Nurulaini Mohd Hashim was shocked to find a trailer lying on its side inside her house when she walked out of her room after hearing a loud bang.
The 55-year-old, whose two children were killed in the 4.15am mishap at Kampung Ketapang Hilir today, said she panicked upon seeing the huge vehicle and started to call out for her children.
Nurulaini was asleep with her husband, Nasaruddin Othman, 60, downstairs when the accident occurred.
Her daughter, Nurnazatul Fasiha Nasruddin, 32, was upstairs, while her son, Mohd Waldon Faris Nasruddin, 21, was still awake with a male friend in the living room.
I was suddenly awakened by a loud noise that shook the whole house... then I saw a trailer inside. It was dark as my husband and I tried to locate our children.
"I was scared, panicked, and shocked by the whole incident. Seconds later, some people, including neighbours, came to help us.
"My husband and I were stunned by the entire incident and felt lost," she said when met today (Aug 3).
In the incident, the trailer driver believed to be under the influence of drugs ploughed into the house, killing Nurnazatul Fasiha before Waldon Faris succumbed to his injuries at Hospital Pekan at 1.30pm.
Meanwhile, Nurulaini said Nurnazatul Fasiha whom she fondly called 'Najah' was previously attached to the Welfare Department in Kelantan for four years before transferred to Maran as an assistant officer with the same department some four months ago.
"My daughter will usually return home during the weekends. Yesterday (Friday), she took an extra day off to spend more time with the family before returning to work on Monday.
"I lost my children and my family house which we have been staying since 2008. The house is completely damaged," she said.
Her neighbour Kamarul Hakimi Jamaluddin, 21, whose house is located less than five metres away said he heard a loud noise and ran out to inspect.
"I could not believe my eyes when I saw a trailer inside my neighbour's house and the house was damaged.
"Villagers gathered to assist before someone alerted the fire department," he said.
District police chief Superintendent Mohd Zaidi Mat Zin said the 40-year-old trailer driver tested positive for drugs and that police will obtain a remand order against him tomorrow (Aug 4).
He added that the case is being investigated under Section 44(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death or injury while driving under the influence of drugs.
