CYBERJAYA: Political parties are urged to refrain from putting up campaign materials, including party flags, before Parliament is dissolved to make way for the 14th General Election (GE14).
Sepang Municipal Council president Datuk Puasa Md Taib made the call today and added that these materials should not pose any danger to road users.
When the time came, he said, party flags, posters and banners could only be put up at approved locations.
“We will not hesitate to take action against any party that put up their campaign materials (at locations) that can distract or obstruct road users’ line of sight.
“Complaints regarding this can be forwarded to the council for action to be taken. So far, we have not received any such complaints,” he said.
Present was his deputy Muhammad Hafiz Shaari.
Puasa added that political parties and candidates contesting in GE14 were required to get the council’s consent and pay a deposit before approval was given to put up their campaign materials.
“In the excitement to campaign, one should not go overboard and break the law or endanger the public,” he said.
On another matter, Puasa said the Car Free Day@Cyberjaya programme would be held out in the second week of every month as part of the council’s initiative to turn Cyberjaya into a clean, green and thriving smart city.
When it was first held on March 17, he said the programme was a success and attracted some 700 people.
“Various activities were organised, including zumba exercise, runs and a morning market,” Puasa added.
