KUALA LUMPUR: Five people were killed in separate accidents today which occurred in Jalan Ampang, Genting Highlands and Subang.
In the Jalan Ampang incident, a couple were killed when their motorcycle skidded and knocked into a tree after the rider lost control of the machine.
Victims identified as Muhammad Fitri Samssudin, 19, and Nur Athirah Rohaizak, 17. Both succumbed to severe head injuries at the scene in the 8.55am mishap.
City Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department chief Assistant Commissioner Zulkefly Yahya said the accident was believed to have occurred when the motorcyclist lost control and crashed into a tree on the left.
"Due to the impact, the victims were flung on the road. No other vehicles were involved in the accident," he said.
Zulkefly said the bodies were sent to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for post-mortem before their family members claimed their remains.
In separate accident, a motorcyclist was killed when he was run over by a lorry at Taman Cendawan, Genting Highlands.
Bentong district police chief Superintendent Yusuf Unis said victim was killed on the spot in the 8am accident.
"The Indonesian victim was rear-ended and he fell onto the ground and was ran over by the lorry," he said.
"The motorcyclist did not wear a helmet and was at a blind spot which resulted in the lorry driver failing to notice him," he said.
Meanwhile in Subang Jaya, two people were killed when the car they were in rammed into trees at Persiaran Tujuan USJ 11 early this morning.
Victims Muhammad Eimran Mohd Yusof and Nur Nabilah Zulkifly, both 22, were killed on the spot in the 5.21am incident.
Muhammad Eimran from Subang Jaya succumbed to head and body injuries while Nur Nabilah from Semerah, Batu Pahat, sustained severe injuries to her face and body.
Selangor Traffic and Enforcement Investigation Department chief Superintendent Azman Shari’at said the Perodua MyVi’s driver was believed to have lost control of the car before it crashed into some trees on the left.
"Both were pronounced dead at the scene and their remains were taken to Serdang Hospital for post-mortem. Police urged witnesses to come forward to help in the investigation," he said in a statement today.
