KK City Hall investigates claims of tourists drying clothes on trees at public places

KOTA KINABALU: City Hall (DBKK) has investigated claims of tourists drying their clothes near a shopping mall downtown, which went viral on social media and WhatsApp application last night.

City Hall Mayor Datuk Yeo Boon Hai said he had inspected the location where tourists were believed to be residing at a nearby hotel who were found hanging their clothes to dry around 5pm yesterday.

“However upon checking we found the clothes were not there and had been taken down,” he said in a statement.

Yeo also met up with the director of Gaya Centre Hotel nearby who assured him that he would advise the guests not to dry clothes at a public area.

The hotel is also providing laundry services at reasonable prices.

“This matter will also be monitored by City Hall’s enforcement personnel from time to time,” Yeo added.

Based on the forwarded pictures and messages via WhatsApp, someone who took the pictures of clothes hanged on trees at the road divider, which is between the mall and the hotel, said the guests claimed the laundry service in the hotel was too expensive.

The message expressed concerns that if the practice is allowed to be continued, soon all the undergarments will also be displayed.
