Culprit who viralled false news of Bangladeshi phantom voters with blue caps on to be arrested

KUALA LUMPUR: The culprit who viralled false news that Bangladesh nationals were seen entering the country with blue caps on will be picked up this afternoon.

Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) chief operating officer Datuk Dr Mazlan Ismail said enforcement officers were already on the move to arrest the suspect who had insinuated news of the phantom voters being brought in.

“We had the same allegation of 40,000 Bangladeshis allegedly being brought in to vote in the 13th General Election (GE13) floated over the social media in 2013.

“The false news had a big negative impact on society and we are seeing the same thing happening again now.

“We have been getting reports of the false news about Bangladesh nationals wearing blue caps seen entering the country...these were actually workers who happened to wear blue caps with white logo of the factory where they worked,” he said when met at Balai Berita here today.
