SEREMBAN: Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun justified his decision to hold five state executive councillor portfolios, saying that it “had to be done” by a state chief.
He said the move of holding more than one portforlio was nothing new and that it was also done by the previous menteri besar, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.
“I don’t see it (being in charge of many portolios) as a problem because the previous menteri besar had done the same thing. However, some changes were made on the portfolios.
“There are matters that need (a menteri besar’s) utmost attention, especially land, financial and security issues.
“The state exco and I have our respective responsibilities. I hope that the community understand my stand on this. I also accept their opinion on the matter,” he told reporters during a visit at Kampung Baru Sikamat which was hit by flash flood today.
On a separate matter, Aminuddin said he would hold a discussion with the state excos on suggestion made by Pakatan Harapan (PH) de facto leaders, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, that the state governments followed suit decision by the Federal Government to slash the ministers’ salaries.
Aminuddin is the chairman for five state committees, namely, Finance, Land and Natural Resources committee; Islamic Affairs committee, Tourism committee, Security committee; and Infrastructure and Public Facilities committee.
Mohamad Hasan had previously held five portfolios, namely, Finance and Land committee; Islamic Affairs committee, Security and Information committee; Investment, Industrial and Entrepreneurship committee; and Rural Development committee.
