Overturned oil tanker causes massive crawl on NSE

KUALA LUMPUR: With Aidilfitri just around the corner, most people have begun their journeys home, leading to slow moving traffic along some major highways.

Earlier, an overturned oil tanker at Kilometre 194.9 resulted in a 17 kilometre crawl along the North-South Expressway (NSE) northbound between Taiping and Bukit Merah.

As at 1.50pm, Plus Berhad Trafik via its Twitter account informed that works to remove the tanker have finished and all lanes are now open to traffic.

The accident had resulted in the left and right lanes being blocked, with the activation of a contra flow lane to ease congestion.

Meanwhile on the same highway from Tanjung Malim to Lembah Beringin, a fallen tree resulted in the left lane being blocked. Traffic however is under control, according to Plus.

A PLUS Malaysia Berhad spokesman told Bernama that traffic southbound is smooth.

Traffic flow at Bangunan Sultan Iskandar, Johor from Singapore to Malaysia is also reported to be slow, as reported by Bernama.

As at 3.07pm, Plus received an early report of an accident at Kilometre 93 northbound from Sungai Petani (U) to Gurun.

As for traffic heading to the east coast, Bernama reported the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) as saying that traffic is congested along the route before the exit at Terengganu Toll Plaza to Kuala Terengganu via the East Coast Expressway 2 (LPT2), while LPT1 from the Karak Toll Plaza to Jabor, Terengganu is smooth.

Traffic is also slow at the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Expressway from Gombak Toll Plaza to Genting Sepah and Bukit Tinggi Rest and Service stopover towards Lentang.
