JOHOR BARU: A 35-year-old man had been detained to assist police investigation over the death of a girl due to a firecracker mishap in Felda Papan Timur, Kota Tinggi, last Thursday.
Kota Tinggi district police chief, Superintendent Ashmon Bajah said the man was arrested by a special investigation team from the district police headquarters at 1.30pm today.
“The man was arrested in Felda Papan Timur. The investigation paper would be submitted to the deputy public prosecutor’s office for further action,” he said in a statement today.
The victim, Nuraqira Khaeefa Mohd Saad, 7, succumbed to head injuries at Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA) on Monday evening.
In the 10pm incident, Nuraqira was cleaning up her grandparents’ house compound with her cousins, when she was injured by a firecracker.
It was reported that the victim’s father, Muhammad Saad Yusuf, 43, had heard a loud explosion before discovering Nuraqira lying on the ground with her head bleeding.
She was later taken to a clinic before being brought to Kota Tinggi Hospital and later referred to HSA.
Nuraqira died without regaining consciousness.
