KUALA LUMPUR: Lawyer and activist Siti Zabedah Kasim, or better known as Siti Kasim, has been arrested last night for allegedly kidnapping her own client from a hospital and obstructing the police from carrying out their duties.
Selangor CID chief assistant commissioner Fadzil Ahmat confirmed Siti and her client Anis Izatty Ruslan said the police rescued the victim from a condominium unit in Segambut at 9pm yesterday.
“This was following a police report lodged by the client’s mother on June 21 claiming that Siti had abducted the victim who was undergoing psychiatric treatment at the Kajang Hospital.
“The police had also lodged a report as a commotion occurred at the hospital ward when Siti rushed in to meet the client despite being stopped by the security guards,” he said.
He said the police then attempted to locate the victim and rushed to the condominium unit in Segambut.
“The victim refused to leave and locked herself in the house. Fearing that she would injure herself or others, the policemen who arrived at the unit decided to force open the door.
“The woman was immediately brought to the hospital so the treatment that was earlier halted could be resumed,” he said.
He said it was also to allow the investigating officer to obtain medical results from the doctor.
Siti was arrested at 12.40am at the Kajang police headquarters.
Fadzil said a remand order would be sought under Section 363 and Section 186 of the Penal Code for kidnapping and obstructing public servant from discharging duties, respectively.
A video clip of last night’s incident had also went viral on social media.
