RAWANG: Four people were killed and four others injured in a massive collision between a trailer lorry and several passenger vehicles at Km446 of the North South Expressway (NSE), south bound, near the Rawang rest area at noon, today.
Selangor Traffic Enforcement Investigation Department chief, Superintendent Azman Shari'at said the accident happened when the trailer lorry that was heading north hit a car.
This caused the trailer lorry to crash into the southbound side of the expressway where it collided with three other vehicles.
It is learned that the dead were two women and a boy who were in a Perodua Alza, and a man in a Toyota Vellfire. They were all killed on the spot.
Among the passenger vehicles involved in the crash apart from the Alza and Vellfire were a Toyota Alphard, a BMW, a Nissan Almera and a Honda Civic.
The injured were a seriously hurt boy who was in the Vellfire, the trailer lorry’s driver, and two passengers in one of the other vehicles.
All were rushed to the Sungai Buloh Hospital for treatment.
“A distress call was received at 12.02pm, and teams from the Sungai Buloh, Rawang and Selayang stations were dispatched to scene,” Selangor Fire and Rescue Department operations management chief Alimaddia Bukri said.
Traffic was backed up for 10 kilometres on both sides of the expressway following the crash.
