MUAR: Two accidents on the North-South Expressway (NSE) claimed the lives of two motorcyclists yesterday.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said the first accident at Km139.5 of the NSE (northbound) involved a lorry and two motorcyclists.
He said in the 11.20am incident, the lorry driver, 57, had stopped in an emergency lane after his vehicle encountered engine problems.
A 20-year-old motorcyclist riding from Johor to Kuala Lumpur rammed into the lorry, causing him to fall into the middle lane of the highway.
Raiz Mukhliz said another motorcyclist, also 20, was not able to stop in time and ran over the motorcyclist, who was killed at the scene.
The other motorcyclist was sent to Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital for treatment.
Raiz Mukhliz said the second fatal accident occurred at Km129.7 of the NSE (northbound) at 8pm.
A 22-year-old motorcyclist lost control of his machine and crashed into a drain.
He sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
