KUCHING: Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today confirmed that former Court of Appeal judge Datuk Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof will be nominated as Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat when the 14th Parliament convenes on Monday.
“We have (a candidate for the Speaker post) … he is Datuk Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof,” the prime minister said in response to reporters’ questions at Wisma Bapa here.
Dr Mahathir declined to elaborate however, saying that the announcement will be made tomorrow.
The prime minister is in Sarawak for a two-day working visit.
The first meeting of the first session of the 14th Parliament will be held for 20 days starting Monday and will be opened by Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Muhammad V.
