Police detain babysitter after baby boy admitted to Tangkak Hospital

TANGKAK: The police have detained a 35-year-old babysitter to facilitate investigation into a possible child abuse case.

Tangkak district police chief Supt Mohad Idris Samsuri said the woman was arrested at 12.15am Thursday following multiple injuries found on a 10-month-old baby who was sent to the Tangkak Hospital last Tuesday.

“The boy had bruises on the left side of his forehead, bleeding in the eye and cracked skull,” he said when contacted today.

It is understood the babysitter had sent the boy to the hospital after he suffered a seizure. The child has since been referred to the Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital in Muar.

He said police are investigating to determine if the baby was abused by the babysitter.

He added that the victim’s parents had said that the babysitter claimed the boy had fallen from the baby swing twice while under her care.

He said the victim’s father, 28, works as an enforcement assistant and the mother, 22, is an assistant at a dental clinic.

“Investigation is ongoing and the police are recording statements from the parents, family members and neighbours,” he said.

Idris said the woman is under remand for four days until Sunday under Section 31(1)(a) of Child Act 2001.
