DAP must explain its stand on Ramasamy, says Perlis Mufti

KANGAR: Perlis Mufti, Datuk Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin, wants DAP to explain its stand on Penang Deputy Chief Minister II, Dr P. Ramasamy who had been linked to terrorist group, the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) of Sri Lanka.

Mohd Asri said since claims of Ramasamy’s alleged support for LTTE were reported, the party top leadership had yet to address the issue.

“I am disappointed and baffled because none of the DAP leaders had voiced out (their stand) on this case. I don’t know why they are keeping mum.

“Maybe they are waiting for the police statement. We hope that they (DAP) could at least say that ‘we would ask the police to investigate’, but nothing had been said (since the issue was reported),” he said when met after the opening of the 14th state legislative assembly today.

Mohd Asri said Ramasamy’s double standard attitude could be seen when the latter objected the extradition of LTTE members who were detained in Malaysia.

“This is not a matter of Dr Zakir Naik (as previously reported). However, when the preacher was facing extradition, he (Ramasamy) sang a different tune.

“LTTE is a terror group that was not only fighting the Sri Lankan government, but also killed many Muslims. LTTE’s hate against Muslims is too apparent.

“I could also see this hate and anti-Islam (sentiment) on Ramasamy, which is a trait of LTTE,” he said.

Mohd Asri said Ramasamy’s tendency in supporting LTTE was undeniable when the leader invited LTTE activists to an event he organised.

“A woman who was found to possess books on (another terrorist group) the Islamic State had been punished for her involvement with terrorism.

“How is it possible that no action was taken against Ramasamy, when his involvement with LTTE was clear?,” he added.
