KUALA LUMPUR: A group of judges, led by Chief Justice, Tan Sri Richard Malanjum, along with the staff at the Kuala Lumpur Court Complex in Jalan Duta, took it upon themselves to clean the toilets there, after some 120 cleaners were reported to have been on strike since two weeks ago.
The gotong-royong, which started at 8.30am today, also saw some 200 court staff sweeping and moping floors as well as disposing the garbage.
Checks revealed that the cafe was the worst area affected, with piles of dirty dishes could be seen at the premises.
Joining the clean-up exercise was Chief Judge of Malaya Tan Sri Zaharah Ibrahim.
She said the matter would be resolved soon a discussion with the contractor appointed for the cleaning works at the complex, Perfect Three Solution Sdn Bhd, was held to identify the cause of the problem.
“There was a misunderstanding on what was promised and what was delivered. We carried out a discussion with the contractor and hope that any issues raised would be settled tomorrow (Monday),” said Zaharah when met after the clean-up exercise.
It was reported that Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Mohamed Hanipa Maidin had instructed his officers to obtain a full written report on the matter after the news of the strike by cleaners.
They had claimed that their salary was withheld by the contractor.
This prompted the Chief Justice to ask court officials to band together in cleaning up the complex.
