KUALA LUMPUR: Waste management company, Alam Flora Sdn Bhd has identified 12 areas in the city as hotspots for ‘flying rubbish’.
Its chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Zain Hassan said the areas are; Danau Kota, Lorong TAR2 (near Mydin), Lorong Haji Taib 2, Lorong Gadek, Lorong Along, Lorong Baba, Lorong Kancil, Lorong Landak, Jalan Kundur, Jalan Semilang, Jalan Cerapu and Jalan Manis 3 (Taman Segar).
He said the company also found that most of the locations mentioned were close to areas where foreigners are residing.
“Some of these areas identified are new because usually, such activities happened near the city centre," he said.
Mohd Zain was met after a ‘Hentikan Sampah Terbang’ (Stop Flying Rubbish) programme with the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Corporation (SWCorp) at Lorong Selimang, Taman Tenaga Cheras, this morning.
He said Alam Flora workers regularly had to face with the problem of irresponsible rubbish disposal.
He said apart from carrying out the regular duties such as sweeping the streets and cleaning drains, workers too had to clear rubbish that end up on rooftops, balcony awnings, and windows.
“Since these locations are full with foreigners, there is a need to educate them on the proper way to dispose of waste and understand the implications of throwing rubbish indiscriminately," he said.
Meanwhile, in today's programme, Mohd Zain said Alam Flora workers managed to collect 900 kilogrammes of waste along Lorong Selimang.
During the programme, Alam Flora officials also distributed brochures in different languages to those staying in the areas.
“We are very serious about this issue.” he said.
